ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Major wildfires were burning in Greece and on one of Spain’s Canary Islands off the African coast Monday, with hot, dry and windy conditions hampering the efforts of hundreds of firefighters battling the blazes. Two of the fires have been burning for several days.European Union officials have blamed climate change for the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires in Europe, noting that 2022 was the second-worst year for wildfire damage on record after 2017.In Greece, authorities said the body of a man was recovered from a sheep pen in an area in the central Viotia region under evacuation as a wildfire that broke out Monday morning approached. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Interstate 35 northbound near Highway 290 has reopened after all lanes were closed due to a fatal crash early Monday morning. I-35 northbound was shut down at exit 238B after a person was hit and killed by a vehicle in the area, according to the Austin Police Department. APD said one vehicle involved stopped and stayed at the scene but it's unclear if that was the only vehicle involved. AUSTIN (KXAN) – During the pandemic, enrollment numbers dropped at Austin Community College, but the school says they are seeing numbers rise once again.“We are projecting that we will get to about 37,000 students for the fall semester,” said Gaye Lynn Scott, Vice Chancellor of instruction with ACC.Student enrollment is still open so numbers will change over the next few weeks.In the Fall semester of 2020, ACC had 40,739 students enrolled, but that next year, in Fall 2021, enrollment dropped to 36,344 students. Four members of the reigning national champion Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team were injured — one fatally — in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in west-central Minnesota.Jori Lynn Jones, 19, of Little Canada, was killed in the crash that happened about 12:40 p.m. in Grace Township, about 25 miles west of Willmar, the State Patrol said. RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Rensselaer man pleaded guilty to armed robbery, firearms, and conspiracy charges on Monday in connection to two 2019 armed bank robberies. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Walls admitted to committing two armed robberies in the Capital Region with Christopher "Wolf" Cohn. Both entered the bank wearing ski masks and Walls displayed a gun, as both threatened to kill bank employees. The pair got away with roughly $150,000. ST. LOUIS -- An Amazon delivery driver had her vehicle, phone, and packages stolen in south St. Louis Sunday. Her vehicle was found later in north St. Louis, missing the Amazon packages.The driver was in the 3400 block of Wyoming Sunday at around 4 p.m. Walking back to her car after a delivery, a man with a handgun approached her. He demanded the keys to her silver 2020 Chevrolet Malibu. A woman got out of a white sedan and told the victim to hand over her phone. She complied, and the suspects drove off in both vehicles towards Gravois Road.
